How to Calculate Percentages
A percentage is a way of expressing a number as a fraction of 100. The word comes from the Latin “per centum” meaning “by the hundred”. When you see 25%, it means 25 out of 100, or one quarter.

Quick Mental Math Tricks
- 10%: Move the decimal point one place left. 10% of 250 = 25
- 5%: Find 10%, then halve it. 5% of 250 = 12.5
- 20%: Find 10%, then double it. 20% of 250 = 50
- 25%: Divide by 4. 25% of 250 = 62.5
