How to Calculate Your Grade

Your overall grade is calculated using a weighted average when assignments have different weights:

Overall Grade = Sum of (Score x Weight) / Sum of Weights
Example: Calculating Course Grade

Homework: 85% (worth 20%), Midterm: 78% (worth 30%), Final: 92% (worth 50%)

(85 x 20) + (78 x 30) + (92 x 50) = 8640
8640 / 100 = 86.4%

How to Calculate Test Grade

Test Grade = (Points Earned / Total Points) x 100
Example: 45 out of 50 points
(45 / 50) x 100 = 90%

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my overall grade?

Multiply each score by its weight, add them together, then divide by total weight. For equal weights, just average all scores.

What grade do I need on my final to pass?

Use the Final Grade Calculator above. Enter your current grade, target grade (usually 60-70% to pass), and final exam weight.

What is a weighted average?

A weighted average gives different importance to different scores. A final worth 50% affects your grade more than homework worth 10%.

How do I convert my grade to GPA?

Each letter grade corresponds to GPA points (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0). Use our GPA calculator for detailed calculations.
